Get Rid Of Love Handles

Click Here for the Ultimate Weight Loss Program“Love Handles” as they’re affectionately called is the side areas around your waist on either side of your body.  The muscles that sit underneath the “love handles” are actually called your oblique muscles. So its just a matter of exercising the oblique muscles and I will get rid of my love handles?  No quite.  It’s exactly the same for any muscle in the body.

You can go to a gym and work on any muscle in the body and not see a major reduction in your overall body fat or come away with bursting muscles in that part of the body. What you need to concentrate on to begin with is weight reduction/loss.  If we take the approach mentioned above, you’ll have stronger, more toned muscles but not be able to see them because of the fat deposits which sit above the muscles.

You may have seen plenty of advertisements on TV showing you rippling muscles if you use this machine or that machine.  Did you ever notice a tiny little disclaimer at the bottom of the screen written in text so small that they are not legible.  That’s called “the fine print”.  That fine print always says something like, “Results shown are achieved with a weight loss program”.

Sure, you can lose weight using these muscle toning machines if you work out on them for 5 hours a day while still eating fatty, sugary and generally unhealthy foods. What really produces results like you see on TV and other advertisements is a combination of a good diet and regular exercise.

A good diet includes reducing or completely taking out foods which are not healthy for you.  Fried foods and high sugar content foods are an excellent start. The other part of weight loss is a regular exercise routine.  This doesn’t necessarily mean taking out an expensive gym membership, although this can help through the creation of tailored exercise programs.  Most studies have shown that a minimum of 30 minutes exercise per day along with a good diet will help you maintain your weight, if not beginning to reduce it at the start of weight loss. Exercises include brisk walking, riding a bike, climbing stairs or walking up hills.

These exercises increase your heart rate which in turn helps burn any calories that you’ve digested during the day.  The longer the exercise, the more calories you burn which reduces your weight. Once the weight is beginning to be lost, then you can target the areas to get rid of the “love handles”.  An exercise which specifically targets your love handles is:

Side crunches:  Lay on your back, bend you knees up and then lay them down sideways with your knees touching the ground.  Now you can perform crunches (or sit-ups) which will target the obliques around your love handles.  Don’t worry if you can do many to start with, that’s not the point here.  The point is to gradually increase the amount you do over time. Exercises such as the above will target your side obliques.  The other very simple exercise is standard crunches (sit-ups).  These two exercises will help strengthen your abs/obliques as well as your overall “core”, which will soon turn love handles into rippling “six packs”.
